José María Hernández Maíllo was born in San Sebastián in 1957. Self-taught and multifaceted artist, during his artistic career he cultivated different disciplines (painting, sculpture, engraving, drawing and installations) and techniques.
Natural landscapes stand out from his work, some in large format canvases, from the mountains and the Mallorcan coasts; the “Plexus” series, consisting of a network of lines, the result of impulsive-obsessive gestures; the series “Chalks”; the folders of engravings, in which it reflects the landscape of its surroundings and the movements of the human body; Erotic sculptures, and sculptures that simulate architectural models.
He made several individual exhibitions in his hometown and in Palma, where he lived between 2000 and 2018. Of his works in collaboration with other artists, highlight the ceiling frescoes of the arcades of the Plaza de Justicia de Tolosa (Guipúzcoa).
As a person, he stood out for his authenticity and humanity. His works, done with precision and sensitivity, are a demonstration of his love and passion for nature and life.
